June is National Hot Dog Month and we are celebrating at Kelapo by eating a lot of gourmet hot dogs from Hot Dogs on Main in Dunedin, FL. Hot Dogs on Main is a take out, gourmet hot dog shop. From Chicago dogs to Brooklyn dogs they have it all, down to your classic chili cheese dog. They also offer Vienna sausage & beef sandwiches. On the lighter side, they have a variety of specialty salads. Their hot dogs are a 100% beef Vienna Hot Dog out of Chicago, but they also offer a turkey or vegetarian dog if you prefer.
Every month they feature a new gourmet hot dog on their “Best in Show” menu. This has included hot dogs such as The Greek Hound Dog and The Italian Greyhound which is an Italian sausage on a Gonnella roll topped with basil pesto and bruschetta. Yum! Their current dog is The Dixie Dog, which is topped with chili and coleslaw. Like them on Facebook and you will always be up to date with their daily specials.

When you head over to Hot Dogs on Main the owners, Nick and Susan, will be there to greet you with a smile and they always treat you like family! Susan entered the food industry in 1979 as a restauranteur specializing in international cuisine. While living in NY she worked with Circles Cafe, an international natural foods cafe and catering company.
Susan traveled extensively throughout Europe and South Africa where she was exposed to an assortment of amazing foods. This lead her to create Epicurean Delights by Susan, a personal chef company located in the Tampa Bay area. Currently, she is balancing her clients for Epicurean Delights and Hot Dogs on Main. Her current clients mostly have special dietary needs that vary from Celiac Disease, to yeast free diet as well as low sodium diets. She is able to adapt to any dietary need. She always uses coconut oil in her cooking when preparing ethnic dishes or sauteing veggies. Even if you don’t have any special dietary needs, her food is amazing. Trust me, I have had her bolognese sauce with homemade pasta… WOW! It was one of the best meals I have ever eaten!
As if that isn’t enough already, she also does monthly cooking classes with The Fresh Market Inspirations Program. She has used coconut oil in her classes as well and loves the amazing flavor it gives to sauteed veggies. Go visit her at her next cooking class at the Clearwater location of The Fresh Market on July 9 from 1-4. She is one busy lady, but loves what she does and has a true passion for food.

Don’t forget Fathers Day is coming up! All week long we will be posting recipes that would be perfect for a delicious Fathers Day picnic. Our picnic day is on Saturday, so come back for the complete picnic! Don’t forget about hot dogs for your picnic. Susan recommends their classic chili cheese dog or the buffalo dog that is topped with wing sauce, carrot and celery slaw/matchsticks and blue cheese dressing for dad.
