Swap Out Your Breakfast for a Healthier Option

Yogurt with fresh berries and granola

Trying to eat healthier or lose weight can be as simple as starting the day off right. They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so it’s essential to make good choices.

Here are some simple healthy swaps you can make to your daily breakfast routine:

Instead of: English muffin or bagel with jam

Try switching to: a whole wheat pita or bagel thin with all-fruit preserves or low-fat peanut butter

Instead of: a blueberry muffin

Try switching to: nonfat yogurt with fresh blueberries and a sprinkle of vanilla granola (Bonus points for Greek yogurt, which can have half the sugar and double the protein of regular yogurt!)

Instead of: a frozen toaster waffle with syrup and scrambled egg

Try switching to: 1 egg, poached or scrambled in Kelapo Coconut Oil,  slice of whole wheat toast with 1 Tbsp maple butter

Instead of: Egg McMuffin

Try making your own: 1 bagel thin or whole wheat English muffin topped with low-sodium ham or turkey bacon, a poached egg and a slice of low fat American or cheddar cheese (I LOVE Tilamook!)

Eating better for yourself can also be as simple as choosing the low-fat or non-fat options (such as milk, peanut butter, cream cheese, and yogurt). Making meals with only egg whites instead of the entire egg is also much healthier.

What you eat for breakfast can affect your metabolism and your eating decisions for the rest of the day, so try and make great breakfast choices everyday!
