Spring Cleaning (Marie Kondo Style)

Spring has arrived, and it is time to get rid of all the clutter that you have been drowning in! Now, some people are more organized than others, so their spring cleaning might be that much easier, but it is still great to let go of the old and welcome in the new!

We’re taking this Spring Cleaning Edition to a whole other level with the help of Marie Kondo. This new Netflix series is all the rage and has spiked the interest of many here in the US. Marie Kondo is a best-selling author and creator of the KonMari Method. The KonMari stars by asking yourself “Does this item spark joy?” and then choosing what truly has value in your life and what does not. If you’re anything like me, it’s hard to let go of things. I know for me it was not as easy as asking myself that question, so I switched it up a bit. I recommend you also ask yourself “Can this bring someone else joy?”.

This inspired me to the point that in one day I cleaned out my closets, shelves, drawers, basically anything with a handle that I could store things inside of. After going through my entire apartment, I ended up with 5 trash bags full of clothes for donation, tons of knickknacks with no value and boxes upon boxes of books I’ve had for more than 10 years (yes, I’m a bookworm). I found many childhood books, that I ended up keeping for my future children, that sparked joy when I was little and I hope will also spark joy in my children’s lives. This is the concept behind the KonMari method. Cherish what has brought you joy and if it still continues to bring that same emotion into your life now, then it’s a keeper. If the item no longer brings that certain spark into your life, let it go. The idea is to let go of your past freely, so it does not weigh you down and be able to walk forward into the future.

If you’re interested in learning more about the KonMari Method and Marie Kondo, I recommend watching the Netflix series! It truly is a must-see series. Marie Kondo’s blog spot is also an amazing source for tips and ideas on how to organize your home. I recommend watching this video featuring Cupcakes and Cashmere.

As always, leave your feedback in the comments below and let us know how the KonMari Method helped you during your spring cleaning.

Peace, love and Kelapo ♥
