How to Avoid Being Hangry

No one likes it. So don't be hangry, be happy!

Trust me, hangry maybe a made up word but the feeling is real. For those of you who don’t know, “hangry” is a combination of being hungry and angry. Believe it or not, researchers say this feeling can lead to fights in your relationship! Yes, money was spent to figure out the true reason people fight over the lost remote (not literally, but perhaps).

In the study, participants were given, and I’m not kidding, voodoo dolls representing the other spouse. It was found the more pins the lower the glucose levels in their system. In fact, the lowest glucose levels stuck TWICE as many pins the dolls as those with the highest glucose levels. Wow.

As a famous candy bar says “You’re not you when you’re hungry.” Clearly. But instead of reaching for a sugary treat, which will only spike your glucose then crash it, opt for better snacks to avoid being hangry, and perhaps a fight with your other half. Coconut oil has been found to help balance sugar levels, and even cravings, making it a perfect addition to your snacks. Here are some of our favorite on-the-go snacks to keep you from being hangry.

FitMenCook’s Coconut Berry Energy Bars – These are great to have on hand for a mid-afternoon pick-me-up. Not too sweet, but packed with good fats to boost your energy levels without the crash.

Raw Coconut Energy Balls – These are a little sweeter. I loved them for my lunch-time dessert since you can just eat one and have your fill. Add a little protein to boost their “powers” to keep hunger at bay.

Kale Chips – Kale is really a superstar in our kitchen. We add this green into our smoothies for all the vitamins in the morning. This is a super easy recipe which will curb your cravings for really salty chips because the kale gets nice and crunchy.

Chocolate Protein Bread – Adding protein into your snacks can help keep those hangry feelings at bay for longer. Kayla’s chocolate protein bread is something you can stash at your desk or in your bag for a quick and easy snack.

Energizing Coffee Protein Shake – Of course we had to add a shake into the mix! This is one of my favorites, and I don’t even like coffee. Skip the energy drink and opt for this all natural boost to get you through your afternoon slump.

So to relationships everywhere – you’re welcome. Now, if you’re still mad after grabbing a snack, I don’t think I can help you out much.
