How To Keep Healthy Hair During the Winter

Healthy Hair

We all know that the winter months may cause our hair to do crazy things. Whether it becomes dry, flaky, or you’re just having a bad hair day, I have your remedy. We have explained previously that coconut oil can work wonders to your hair but I wanted to share a few of my tips in keeping healthy hair during the winter months. Although in Florida we don’t get very many “cold” days there are some days that my hair is dry or has fly-a-ways and I maintain that with coconut oil. Here’s some of my tips for surviving those winter months:

  • If you hair becomes dry, take about a teaspoon to tablespoon of coconut oil and rubbing it through the dry area. For me, this would be my ends because when the weather cools down my hair tends to dry out. Coconut oil replenishes the moisture to your hair leaving hair healthy and shiny.
  • If you scalp becomes flaky don’t buy those “dandruff” shampoos to try to eliminate it. First of all they stink and I don’t think they work all that great! Apply a small amount of coconut oil to your whole scalp morning and night and begin to see and FEEL a difference within a few days. Use a small comb to brush out any dry skin that may linger near your scalp.
  • If you have ever lived in cold, snowy weather you know that static can mess up a good hair day within an instant. Now, I don’t have to experience this too much but we do have terrible humidity that causes my hair to have fly-a-ways like no other! I will style my hair as normal and than take a very small amount of coconut oil and brush through my hair focusing on the areas that are “frizzy”. Using such a small amount of coconut oil helps to keep your hair in place without causing your hair to look like there is a product in it.

Those are just a few of my simple tips and tricks for keeping healthy hair during the winter. If you need more in depth treatment try our homemade hair mask or read about getting rid of split ends using coconut oil!
