Yes, Healthy Desserts Exist

Typically, when dieting, we think of desserts as off limits. But, if done correctly, don’t have to be. Believe it or not, there are a few sweet treats you can indulge in, responsibly, and still meet your goals. This is great news for me because sweets are my weakness. It seems I just can’t stay away from them.

One way to help curb your sweet tooth cravings is by incorporating coconut oil into your diet. This food can help level sugar levels, therefore decreasing the chance your body will crave something with extra sugar. You can give your recipes a one-two punch by making some sweets WITH coconut oil! It’s as easy as swapping out butter in a one-to-one ratio.

1. Coconut Strawberry Banana Cream Pie

I may or may not have a new celebrity crush, Jason Wrobel. This vegan chef has his own show where he introduces foods and teaches us “How to Live to 100.” The episode last Friday on the Cooking Channel was all about coconuts, and this dessert was one of the featured recipes. This vegan recipe is packed full of natural foods you know your body will love, including coconut oil! Get the full recipe here. See more of Jason’s recipes on his YouTube channel.

Healthy and delicious - nothing tastes better than that!

2. Carolyn Ketchum’s Raspberry Coconut Scones

This one makes my list for two reasons. 1. Carolyn is a genius at creating once forbidden foods into foods you can have and still maintain a good, clean diet. 2. Raspberries are a superfood, just like coconut oil. JJ Virgin, a Fitness and Nutrition Expert, wrote an article for the Huffington Post talking about the top foods worth the hype. Guess which two made the cut? Coconut oil and raspberries. One scone should hold you over without breaking the calorie bank.

3. Chef Alyssa’s Raw Cacao-Coconut Truffles

I fell in love with these when Chef Alyssa made them for a recent show. My favorite was adding in the cayenne powder for a little bit of a kick. The best thing is that you can have a great portion control in this food. You can make each truffle into a single serving which will help you stay on track.

4. FitMenCook’s Baked Stuffed Apples

Apples have fiber which can help keep you fill. Greek yogurt has protein which your body needs. And coconut oil can help keep hunger at bay as well as bring a unique flavor to every dish. This is why this FitMenCook original makes the list. It’s hearty, but clean. My favorite kind of recipe.

5. Guilt-Free Baked Peaches

Because I’m a southern girl at heart, I had to put peaches on the list. Lani whipped up these guilt free peaches that are quick, easy and healthy all at the same time. With very little calories per serving, you get the sweets without having to break a sweat to work it off.

So enjoy the sweets every now and then.
