BBQ Chicken Sandwhich

It’s BBQ month, even though you don’t need an excuse for a family BBQ! The star here is the homemade BBQ sauce! The sauce contains a combination of amazing flavors, from the sweetness of the brown sugar to the savory, richness from the Kelapo ghee. Make sure to stir up some extra sauce on the side, your family and guest will definitely want more! 

BBQ Chicken Sandwhich


  • ½ cup onion, chopped 
  • ½ cup celery, diced 
  • 1 garlic clove, minced 
  • 1 tablespoon Kelapo ghee 
  • ½ cup salsa 
  • ½ cup ketchup 
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar 
  • 2 tablespoons cider vinegar 
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce 
  • ½ teaspoon chili powder 
  • ¼ teaspoon salt 
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper 
  • 2 cups cooked chicken, shredded 
  • 6 hamburger buns, split and toasted 


  1. In a large saucepan, sauté ½ cup of chopped onion, ½ cup of diced celery, and 1 minced garlic clove using 1 tablespoon of Kelapo ghee. 
  2. Then, stir in ½ cup of salsa, ½ cup of ketchup, 2 tablespoons of brown sugar, 2 tablespoons of cider vinegar, 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce, ½ teaspoon of chili powder, ¼ teaspoon of salt, and 1/8 teaspoon of pepper. 
  3. Next, stir 2 cups of shredded cooked chicken into the sauce created in steps 1 and 2. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat. Cover and simmer for about 15 minutes. Serve about 1/3 cup of the chicken and sauce mixture on each split and toasted hamburger bun. 
  4. Enjoy!
